Q. Please tell us about your company’s key characteristics.
Since our founding, we have aimed to specialize in denture fabrication, and dentures continue to account for a large proportion of our work. We are now also strengthening our fixed prosthetics operations and, as a full-service dental laboratory, are working to fabricate dental prostheses that address the entire oral cavity as a whole.
To respond to the changing needs of both our customers and the working environment, we have taken the initiative in adopting advanced equipment, including CAD/CAM systems and 3D printers. At the same time, we organize and operate hands-on seminars on topics such as complete dentures. These seminars are designed to help participants gain practical experience and develop skills they can apply in their clinical work. Through these activities, we work together with dental professionals to contribute to better dental care.
Q. What is your impression of DENKEN-HIGHDENTAL?
DENKEN-HIGHDENTAL has always given me a strong impression as a supplier of dental laboratory equipment, including products such as the Single Jet and dewaxing units. In the past, service technicians would even come to carry out repairs at around 10:00 p.m. Today, due to work-style reforms on both sides, neither of us works that late anymore. Even so, DENKEN-HIGHDENTAL still responds quickly to repair requests, and I continue to regard it as a reliable manufacturer.
Before we realized it, almost all the equipment used in our Denture Department may have become DENKEN-HIGHDENTAL products.

Q. How do you find the laboratory equipment you are currently using?
About @Blaster
We previously used a large, high-powered industrial sandblaster, but we disposed of it after introducing @Blaster. With our previous machine, the blasting process took only two or three minutes per denture. The advantage of @Blaster, however, is that we can load the workpiece and leave the machine to complete the process automatically.
Because no one needs to stand in front of @Blaster, it may appear at first glance that it is not being used. In reality, it is constantly working for us. With manual processing, overlapping tasks can create waiting time. Even if each individual time saving is only a few minutes, those small improvements accumulate and produce a significant overall benefit.
About Hi-Barrel mini
The compact pot is easy to handle. It also requires only a small amount of polishing media, which may be one of the reasons the workpieces do not deform at all. Its polishing performance is also more than adequate.
One advantage of automated polishing is that it produces a smooth, gently rounded finish across the entire surface. Of course, if that type of finish is not required, we use manual polishing instead. We select the appropriate method according to the desired result.

Q. What led you to consider exocad and DH Sonic Mighty 4K as candidates, and what ultimately led to your decision?
We had already been using a 3D printer to fabricate clasps and similar components for several years, and we wanted to expand the range of processes that could be completed digitally. That was where our search began.
On a busy day, digitizing the production of record bases and custom trays can require us to print approximately 150 units. We therefore looked for a system capable of handling that production volume.

Q. How has your experience been after using the system?
Supports are generally generated automatically. However, because automatic support generation occasionally fails, we add a few supports manually as a precaution.
Even so, it is impressive to arrive in the morning and see around 100 record bases and trays hanging from the build platform. The printed results are clean and consistent. By adjusting factors such as the build orientation and fit parameters, we can achieve quality comparable to manually fabricated products. The ability to maintain uniform thickness is clearly superior to manual fabrication.

Q. What benefits have you gained from introducing these products?
We previously fabricated one-piece clasp frameworks and bars covered by insurance using refractory models. Being able to skip that step and proceed directly to 3D printing is a major advantage.
For record bases and custom trays, the conventional process involved blockout, resin application, contour adjustment, and dewaxing. With the digital workflow, all of these steps have been eliminated except for contour correction and fit adjustment. Eliminating the dewaxing process also keeps the model clean and removes a particularly troublesome step.
Securing personnel who can perform the design work remains a challenge, but overall, the system has enabled us to save approximately the workload of one person.
Q. Are there any areas where you would like to see further improvements?
Considering its price, we are satisfied with DH Sonic Mighty 4K. However, printing failures can still occur, including those caused by human error. Software or printer improvements that could help prevent or compensate for these failures would make the workflow even easier.

Q. What advice would you give to those considering purchasing these products?
For anyone involved in denture fabrication, I highly recommend @Blaster. It prevents blasting media from scattering, which helps keep the laboratory clean, and it provides impressive output for such a compact machine.
For larger laboratories, making a decisive investment in 3D printing can be highly effective. It can deliver substantial improvements in efficiency. However, depending on the machine, users may need to develop expertise in areas such as build orientation. One option is to begin with a high-end machine that delivers consistently high quality. We followed that approach, and the experience we gained has been extremely valuable.
I recommend first introducing the NextDent 5100 and developing your 3D-printing expertise, and then purchasing DH Sonic Mighty 4K. (Laughs)
Q. What are your future plans involving digital technologies?
As intraoral scanners become more widely used, we may have more opportunities to print models. We would like to build a production system capable of handling that demand. In the future, we would also like to take on the challenge of printing metal frameworks for private-treatment cases.
